The UNLV Rebels showcased explosive offense and stifling defense in a dominant win against the North Texas Mean Green with a dominating 58-27 win.

UNLV didn't waste any time with a 7-play, 65-yard drive where quarterback Doug Brumfield finds wide receiver Kyle Williams for a 35-yard passing touchdown.

This game wasn’t just a statement game for UNLV, it showed they can have a slugfest and pull away from teams.

The first sign of adversity came from North Texas kick returner Kaylon Horton who answered UNLV’s dominant drive with a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown, showing the Rebels that the Mean Green wasn’t going down without a fight.

Yet something the Mean Green didn’t know was that UNLV loves to fight.

The UNLV defense showed out often and early, starting their dominance with a three and out to force a punt, only the punt never got off.

UNLV defensive back BJ Harris came off the edge and blocked the punt to send the ball out of the back of the endzone for a safety.

The game stayed close throughout the first half, with UNLV scoring three touchdowns and North Texas scoring two touchdowns and two field goals.

After the first touchdown, runningback Aidan Robbins decided to show why he is replacing UNLV legend, Charles Williams. He ended up rushing for 2 touchdowns in the first half, just absolutely tormenting the Mean Greens defense.

The Rebels ended up leading coming out of halftime 23-20.

With fans in Allegiant believing the game was going to be close, UNLV gave them what they have been wanting to see for the last few years, straight domination.

The defense came out firing, forcing a three and out, only for Doug Brumfield to get his first of two rushing touchdowns, breaking one for a 29-yard rushing touchdown extending the lead to double digits for the first time of the game.

North Texas answered in only three plays with a 54-yard touchdown from the oldest quarterback in college football, Austin Aune, to tight end Var’Keyes Gumms.

This, sadly for the Mean Green, would be the last time they would score in this game.

The defense was relentless. With players like Adam Plant Jr., Austin Ajiake and Jerrae Williams leading the way, the Rebels shut out North Texas for 22 minutes.

Not only did the defense shut the Mean Green out, but they forced two turnover on downs and two interceptions: One by safety Jordyn Morgan, and the other by Cameron Oliver, who ended up scoring the last touchdown of the game.

All the while Doug Brumfield and Aidan Robbins continued to light up the scoreboard. Robbins got one more rushing touchdown, ending his day with 227 rushing yards on 29 carries.

Brumfield, on the other hand, showed that he is the future of this program, with two rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown to receiver Ricky White who bullied his way into a touchdown on a receiver screen.

Brumfield ended with 211 passing yards and 2 touchdowns on a 77% completion percentage. He also got busy on the ground, tallying 100 rushing yards with 2 touchdowns on 12 carries.

No matter if I'm running around or handing the ball off to Aidan or passing to Kyle or Ricky, you know,” said Brumfield, “the team is on the sidelines supporting us and whatever we're doing and they know we’re going out there and giving 100% effort each play so our boys are right behind us.”
