The Runnin’ Rebels saw their three-game win streak snapped by Boise State as the Broncos came away victorious, 86-76.
“It was a high intensity, high energy game,” head coach Kevin Kruger said. “I mean Boise, they're good. They put you in tough spots where you end up chasing. That's what makes them good.”
The Broncos went off to a 9-4 run start until forward Royce Hamm Jr. sinked a three pointer off a pass from guard Bryce Hamilton, keeping the streak alive for 1,158 straight games with a three-pointer made for the Rebels.
Early on the Rebels’ crowd showed frustration with the officials, an omen of things to come as the Rebels’ committed 24 fouls in total to the Broncos’ 19, 16 of which came in the second half.
The Rebels’ were out rebounded 38-29. The Rebels’ gave up 13 offensive rebounds which led to 21 second chance points for the Broncos.
UNLV’s top scorer, Hamilton, didn't get things going until 7:07 left in the first. Where he was able to sink a jump shot just outside of the paint.
The Rebels’ had no answer for the Broncos’ onslaught of efficient shooting; 53.4% from the field as well as 45.8% from the three-point line.
The first half came to an exciting close with a pass from guard Jordan McCabe to center David Muoka for a dunk. As well as McCabe working his defender but missed a contested jumper to end the half.
It was 47-41 in the Broncos favor, entering the halftime.
Hamilton only had 5 points in the first half, but managed to bring more momentum into the second half. Hamilton worked his defender to get a layup with his left, 45-47.

All of a sudden the game was tied up with 16:15 remaining in regulation. Hamilton had scored 7 points in four minutes.
The two teams would go back and forth with possession of the ball.
A highlight for the night featured McCabe dishing a pass to Hamm Jr. for a poster dunk on Broncos’ forward Maden Armus, 66-69.
Despite the Rebels' hardest efforts to come out on top, the Broncos’ would rally, going on a 12-4 run to seal the victory at 86-76.
As well as a strong showing from their bench scoring 32 points, including Williams who had a hot start; scoring 7 of the Rebels’ first 17 points as well as finishing the game with 17 points total.
Hamilton had a stellar showing with 25 points and 5 rebounds with 20-of-25 coming in the second half.
Next up, the Runnin’ Rebels will stay at home to play Wyoming for Senior Night on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.
