The silver and black were unable to end the Chiefs' winning streak, falling 48-9 at Arrowhead Stadium.
“It was bad in all phases,” Interim Head Coach Rich Bisaccia said in a press conference after the game. “No chance of winning a football game when you turn it over five times.”
On the Raiders opening drive of the game, Josh Jacobs fumbled the ball near the 20-yard line. This resulted in the Chiefs cornerback Mike Hughes running the ball back 23 yards for a touchdown.
Back on offense, Derek Carr was only able to run six plays for 13 yards before handing the ball back over to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. To end the first, Mahomes capped off a five-play, 80-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Darell Williams.
With the Raiders’ top offensive player Darren Waller out, the offense did not look the same on the field through the first half. They punted on three of their first four starts and struggled to move the ball with any consistency. Leading by two scores, the Chiefs added another score as Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran five yards to the corner of the end zone, putting Kansas City up 21-0.
On second down, Carr’s pass intended for Foster Moreau was intercepted by Tryann Mathieu at Las Vegas’ 44-yard line.
The Chiefs capitalized off the Raiders turnover, as receiver Josh Gordon scored his first touchdown since 2019. This put Kansas City up 28-0, which made for the most points scored in a half this season.
The Raiders next drive ended as soon as it started as receiver Hunter Renfrow fumbled the ball at the 38-yard line. The Chiefs finished off their offensive half with Edwards-Helaire running it in for his second touchdown of the day.
With less than two minutes before the half, the Raiders had 60 penalty yards to just 88 yards of total offense. In those two minutes, Carr drove the Raiders’ offense 68 yards on 13 plays to get into the Chiefs’ territory for the first time in the game. With no time left, kicker Daniel Carlson kicked a field goal to put Las Vegas on the board at the half.
The Chiefs' defense held the Raiders to 25 rushing yards, a 14% third-down efficiency while adding pressure to Carr with two sacks and eight quarterback hits.
To open up the second half, the silver and black forced the Chiefs' offense to go three-and-out. Hunter Renfrow found the end zone for the first and only Raiders touchdown on the day.
The Chiefs added another field goal on the ensuing drive to make it 41-9. After another Raiders fumble, Derrick Gore ran the ball in from 51 yards out for a touchdown. This marked the Raiders' fifth turnover on the day and effectively sealed the Chiefs' victory 48-9.
Kansas City now leads the series 70-54-2 all-time. The Chiefs have now taken eight of the last nine games in the series, with the Raiders' last win coming in a 40-32 victory in Week five of 2020.
“It’s a missed opportunity,” Hunter Renfrow stated in a press conference after the game. “You know, we’re 6-7, with four left [games], we can still finish 10-7 and get in the playoffs. We have a lot of big games coming up...we gotta get better.”
Despite the loss, Renfrow had a career day. He finished with 117 yards on 13 catches and a touchdown. This is the most catches he has recorded as a pro, and just one short of tying the franchise single-game record.
The Raiders are now under .500 for the first time this season and are currently sitting at fourth in the AFC West. They will travel to Cleveland for week 15 to play a Saturday game against the 6-6 Cleveland Browns, the game can be watched live on the NFL Network at 1:30 P.M.
