Newcastle vs Norwich:

Newcastle wasted another chance to get their first win of the season, drawing 1-1 with Norwich.

Newcastle looked lively in manager Eddie Howe’s first game on the sidelines. Unfortunately, Howe’s debut did not go as planned. Ciaran Clark got a red card after nine minutes played for pulling back Teemu Pukki who had a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Despite the one-man advantage, Norwich could not make it count. Newcastle strikers Joelinton and Callum Wilson had chances to score, but the first half ended 0-0.

The second half brought drama. Joelinton argued he had won a penalty after he got tripped in the box by Lukas Rupp.

Newcastle appealed another penalty decision, which they got after Billy Gilmour’s handball off a header from Federico Fernandez. Wilson took the penalty and scored to make it 1-0.

Norwich finally took advantage of having an extra man in the 79th minute. Pukki scored one of the goals of the season, smashing home a cross from Dimitrios Giannoulis on the volley.

Newcastle almost completely fell apart when a defensive mistake from Fabian Schar led to a one-on-one chance for Pierre Lees-Melou against Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Lees-Melou’s shot was denied and the game remained a draw.

Leeds vs Crystal Palace:

Leeds got a late winner to beat Crystal Palace 1-0.

Crystal Palace had an early shout for a penalty. Jordan Ayew was pushed by Pascal Struijk, but the referee did not see sufficient illegal contact by Struijk.

Clear chances were scarce in the first half. However, yellow cards were not. Joel Ward got booked for a rugby-style tackle while Conor Gallagher slid in late on Raphinha.

The second half began with a huge scoring opportunity for Leeds. Daniel James found himself wide open on the wing and passed the ball across the box to an open Rodrigo. However, Rodrigo shot the ball wide of the goal and the game remained tied.

Crystal Palace had their fair share of wasted scoring opportunities. Christian Benteke found himself free at the far post following a cross from Wilfried Zaha but missed the goal with his header.

The only goal of the game occurred during the third minute of stoppage time when Marc Guehi gave away a penalty after blocking a header from Liam Cooper with his arm. Raphinha stepped up to take the penalty and scored to give Leeds the win.

Premier League games are broadcast on NBCUniversal networks and its Peacock streaming service.
