In the end, UNLV suffered their first road loss of the season, falling 83-64.

“We just didn’t seem to be on the same page and we weren’t as sharp as we have been," Head coach Keven Kruger said. "A big focal point of this game was to get out early and get a good start”

SMU started the game on a 14-5 run. The Mustangs made it very tough for UNLV by contesting all of their shots and not allowing any second chance opportunities for the Rebels.

At the half the Rebels struggled offensively. They shot just 27 percent from the field and trailed 44-21.

UNLV also had trouble getting second chance opportunities. They grabbed just four offensive rebounds in the first half, while SMU grabbed 21 defensive rebounds.

Senior guard Bryce Hamilton led the Rebels in scoring at the half with seven points. Hamilton made history for the Rebels, moving into the 25th spot all time in scoring after draining a three pointer.

The second half was much better for the Rebels. They went on to outscore the Mustangs in the half 43-39. Justin Webster led the Rebels in the second half scoring 12 points and knocking down four three pointers.

However it was too little too late for the Rebels, as they would be defeated in the game. Their rough start early made it hard to mount a late comeback.

Royce Hamm Jr. led the Rebels in scoring with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bryce Hamilton contributed 12 points and Justin Webster added another 12 to the total.

Star point guard Kendric Davis led SMU (6-3) in scoring with 18 points and eight assists, while Emmanuel Bandoumel added 13 points and eight assists.

The Runnin Rebels look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to San Francisco to take on the San Francisco Dons. This game will take place at 7 p.m.and will be able to be streamed live on ESPN +.
