Southampton vs Aston Villa:
Aston Villa lost their 5th Premier League game in a row after falling 1-0 against Southampton, who have won three of their last four league games.
The only goal of the game came when Adam Armstrong hit a beautiful left-footed shot on the half volley.
Both teams had their chances following the goal. Emiliano Buendia could have leveled the score quickly, but his shot was tame and an easy save for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
Southampton nearly scored again but the solid Aston Villa defense led by Tyrone Mings kept the deficit to just one.
Anwar El Ghazi was extremely fortunate to only pick up a foul and not a second yellow card after pulling back Valentino Livramento. Directly after the foul, El Ghazi had a chance to make it 1-1. However, his shot sailed over the crossbar.
As the second half began, Aston Villa looked the much stronger side. Ollie Watkins set up a few chances, blasted a shot into the side netting, and put a shot wide in the final few minutes of the game.
An unfortunate result for Aston Villa, who gave all they had towards the end of the game but could not find the equalizer.
Premier League games are broadcast on NBCUniversal networks and its Peacock streaming service.
