Las Vegas Raiders star wide-receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a fatal car accident Tuesday morning, according to police.
According to the police statement, the crash happened at approximately 3:39 A.M. at the intersection of South Rainbow Boulevard and South Spring Valley Parkway.
Ruggs was driving his matte green Chevrolet Corvette when he collided with a Toyota Rav 4.
The driver of the Rav 4 was dead upon the arrival of the fire department.
Ruggs stayed at the scene, and showed signs of impairment. He is expected to be charged with DUI resulting in death.
Ruggs was transported to UMC with non life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation states the crash occurred when Ruggs’ Corvette hit the rear of the Rav 4.
Rugg's lawyers David Z. Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld issued a statement that they would conduct their own investigation into what happened. They also urged the public to reserve judgement until all the facts had been uncovered.
His team the Las Vegas Raiders acknowledged the situation via a statement.
"The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs II that occurred this morning in Las Vegas.” The statement read. “We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”
This is an ongoing investigation, and updated stories will come out as more information is released.
UPDATE: 12:18p.m.
Ruggs' Snapchat story showed a video of an un-named person at Topgolf Las Vegas on Koval Lane and Harmon Ave.
The video was posted at around 10p.m., just five hours before the accident occurred.
Topgolf Las Vegas is five miles from the scene of the accident, and it is unclear of what Ruggs did in the hours between the Snapchat video and the accident.
More updates will be posted as they come.
