Saturday Premier League Report

Watford vs Liverpool:

Claudio Ranieri’s first game in charge of Watford could not have gone worse. Liverpool dismantled them 5-0.

Sadio Mane scored first after a phenomenal pass from Mohamed Salah. After multiple tries, Liverpool would make it 2-0 through Roberto Firmino.

The second half was more of the same as Firmino scored again to make it 3-0.

Salah danced his way around the Watford defense to give Liverpool a 4-0 lead. A brilliant individual effort.

The embarrassment was complete when Firmino tapped in the fifth goal for Liverpool and his hat-trick.

Aston Villa vs Wolverhampton:

It appeared that Aston Villa would cruise to a win against Wolverhampton at home, but they let a two-goal lead slip in the final 15 minutes to lose 3-2.

It was all Aston Villa to begin the West Midlands derby, although it took them a while to open the scoring. In the second half it would finally come as Danny Ings scored in the 48^th minute.

John McGinn was the man to make it 2-0 with a fantastic strike outside of the box.

The comeback was then on for Wolverhampton. Romain Saiss decreased the lead for Aston Villa to 2-1.

The ball was bumbled in by Conor Coady to level the score and in the final minute of the game it was heartbreak for the home fans. Ruben Neves scored a deflected free-kick to give Wolverhampton the win.

Leicester vs Manchester United:

In what was arguably the game of the day, Leicester defeated Manchester United 4-2.

It started badly for Leicester after a wonderful strike from Mason Greenwood put Manchester United up 1-0. Youri Tielemans scored an equally impressive strike to level the score at 1-1.

Chances continued to flow in for both sides, but it was Leicester who would go 2-1 up. From a corner kick, Caglar Soyuncu was in the right place at the right time to tap the ball in.

Marcus Rashford smashed home a goal after a superb long ball from Victor Nilsson-Lindelof to make it 2-2.

It was an instant reply from Leicester as this time Jamie Vardy got on the score sheet.

The final blow came with a Leicester goal for Daka.

Manchester City vs Burnley:

Going into this game, Manchester City had taken 28 of the last 30 points available against Burnley. Manchester City had also won on an aggregate of 22-1 in the last six games against Burnley.

With all that said, Manchester City got an expected win against the winless Burnley, picking up a 2-0 victory.

The first goal came from a tap-in from Bernardo Silva.

It took a while, but Manchester City got the second goal after Burnley failed to clear the ball. Kevin De Bruyne smashed it home to make the score 2-0.   

Norwich vs Brighton:

One may have thought that Brighton’s bid to finish in the top four would march on against lowly Norwich. That was not the case as the game finished in a 0-0 draw.

The biggest incident of the game came when Neal Maupay rounded Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul and appeared to make contact with Maupay’s right foot inside of the box. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) checked the play, and no penalty was given.

Southampton vs Leeds:

Southampton won a key battle at the bottom of the table as they defeated Leeds 1-0.

It took Leeds until the final minute of the first half to get their first shot attempt. Southampton got the only goal of the game after Nathan Redmond dribbled a long way with the ball to lay off a pass to Armando Broja, who was wide open in the box.

The best chance of the game for Leeds occurred when Mohammed Salisu failed to clear the ball, allowing Daniel James to have a scoring opportunity. James put the ball wide of the goal letting Salisu off the hook.   

Brentford vs Chelsea:

Chelsea proved to be too much for the surging Brentford, defeating them 1-0.

Brentford started brightly and had a big chance when Bryan Mbeumo hit the post. Ben Chilwell scored for Chelsea just before the end of the first half, burying a shot on the half volley.

Brentford’s best chance of the second half came from Ivan Toney. Toney hit a powerful shot at Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy who was equal to it. Mendy pulled off a few more fantastic saves and Chelsea’s defense was excellent in denying Brentford the equalizer they pushed hard for.
