OCTOBER 13TH VS UTAH STATE
UNLV Women's Volleyball ended their five match winning streak to Utah state Thursday night. Fifth year Senior Mariena Hayden came out with another match high of 19 kills followed by senior Milicia Tasic with 14 kills. UNLV still came out short to the Aggies while they got a total of 54 kills compared to Utah State with 70.
Although UNLV outhit the Aggies .289 to .265 for the match and came out with match breaking numbers for the players, Utah State was able to still come out with a win. Senior Lauryn Burt and sophomore Arien Fafard had 19 and 18 assists.While sophomore Jordyn Freeman had a match-high eight blocks and junior Paris Oliveira recorded a team-high eight digs.
This still did not stop them for being short in quite every category, digs (46-34), and assists(66-47). Overall falling 3-2 in the matchup.
OCTOBER 14TH VS BOISE STATE
UNLV Women’s Volleyball faced another tough loss as they fell short 3-2 in their five matches Saturday afternoon. While The Rebels walked away with another loss it was a battle between both teams.
Senior Mariena Hayden had an incredible night, her second double-double of the season. She finished the matches with 23 kills along with 10 digs. Senior Kate Brennan led the team in hitting percentage at .500 with seven kills. Throughout the exchange of victories, both teams managed to tie in hitting percentage(.248).
UNLV also led in kills(65-54) and in assists (64-50). Sophomore Arien Fafard had a team-high 30 assists with a season- and match-high three service aces. Senior Lauryn Burt contributed 28 assists. Both teams ended the night with 64 digs, as junior Shelby Capllonch led the team with 16.
Even though the Rebels were dominant, they still walked away with their second loss. They hope to win at home against Wyoming State. The game will be held on Thursday Oct.21st @ 5pm at Cox Pavillion.
WOMENS SOCCER
OCTOBER 10TH VS NEW MEXICO
UNLV started the week with a 2-1 win against New Mexico.The Rebels improved to 9-6 on the year and 2-4 in conference play. The Rebels outshot the Lobes 12-9.
UNLV trailed at the 53rd minute after New Mexico took the lead. With 12 minutes left to play of the half, Hevani Haunga got the tying goal with an incredible assist from Lourdes Bosch. With incredible pressure and defense. New Mexico was not able to get another goal. The Rebels took the lead against the Lobes late in the second half when Taylie Liddell took a penalty kick and made it 2-1. Handing New Mexico their first loss of conference play.
OCTOBER 15TH VS WYOMING STATE
The UNLV Women’s Soccer team was able to keep up the momentum with a 1-0 win against Wyoming State. The Rebels got their fifth shutout of the season.
Julez Dominguez scored the only goal of the game early in the first half. The Rebels were able to withhold the Cowgirls from any goals. UNLV out-shot the Cowgirls 17-8 in that category, including 9-2 in shots on goal. The Rebels also drew more corner kicks (10-3) to force the Cowgirl keeper to make eight saves. UNLV improved to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in Mountain West play.
Rebels hope to keep fighting to be in the Mountain West Tournament as they face Colorado State.
MENS SOCCER
OCTOBER 10TH VS CHICAGO STATE
The UNLV Men’s Soccer team came out the gates with two goals within the first 16 minutes to give them another victory.
UNLV outshot Chicago State 13-4 with the goals coming from senior Jesus Partida and junior Skyler Goo. Although Chicago answered quickly after the first goal. They just could not quite get another past the net. Junior goalkeeper Miguel Duenas, Jr. came away with his second win on the year after recording a season.
The Rebels improve to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in WAC play.
OCTOBER 16TH VS UTAH VALLEY
UNLV's winning streak came to an end with a 4-1 loss against Utah Valley.
The Rebels may have outshot their opponents 12-11, they were only able to produce one on the scoreboard. It seemed as though Utah Valley had much more luck when it came to the net. As they scored two goals in each half. Senior Aedon Kyra was the only rebel of the night to make a goal in the 79th minute.
UNLV hopes to recover quickly as they have a match at Grand Canyon on October 22nd. The game will begin at 7PM. Catch it live on ESPN+.
UNLV FOOTBALL
OCTOBER 16TH VS UTAH STATE
With the UNLV Rebels in the lead for almost the entirety of the game, they still managed a 28-24 loss to Utah State.
UNLV started Saturday nights strong as they were able to rack up 17 points. Charles Williams had a career night with three touchdowns and finishing with 221 yards. In the second half the Aggies scored a touchdown to make it 21-17. The Rebels answered quickly as Williams had a five yard touchdown run.
With the defense holding the lead strong. Tavis Malakius blocked the Aggies 41’ yard field-goal attempt with only five minutes remaining. However, once USU forced the Rebels off the field with enough time to win the game. As what has been repeating history, the Aggies took the lead late in the game. UNLV had one more chance to try and catch up. What seemed to be a first down was ruled an interception. Sealing the fate of the 12th loss of the Rebels.
The same search continues as the Rebels play San Jose State on October 21st at 8PM in Allegiant Stadium.
UNLV MEN'S HOCKEY VS CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
GAME 1 & GAME 2
The UNLV Skatin Rebels were handed their first back to back losses by Central Oklahoma. The Rebels fell short Friday evening 2-1. Saturday night they hoped to split the series but fell 6-2.
Friday evening began with very little action from either side of the rink. Along with multiple penalty kills by UCO that the Rebels were forced to kill off. UNLV finally got a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Boutoussov. UCO tied the game quickly after that. However, Central Oklahoma kept their undefeated record of the season. The UNLV Skatin Rebels came in Saturday night hoping to split the series but left with a 6-2 deficit. Although, it was a battle shared between goals they were completely outshot and left UCO with a tough loss.
The Skatin’ Rebels return back to City National Arena to face off the Arizona Wildcats Oct. 22-23.
