UNLV’S Kris Clyburn Joins Milwaukee Bucks NBA Summer Squad

Kris Clyburn, a 6’6 guard, spent three years as a Runnin’ Rebel finishing his senior year as an undeniably key asset to the Rebels’ success.

During his first two seasons at UNLV, he only averaged about 7 points and 3 rebounds per game but he nearly doubled all of his statistics his senior year averaging a team-high of 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. He averaged 14.6 and 6.0 against conference teams.

What was once known at UNLV as the "Marion Cut" from former Rebel Shawn Marion, who played 16 seasons in the NBA, quickly became the "Clyburn Cut" after he converted on back-door layup after back-door layup.

“I did it all three years. I had great point guards like Jordy and Noah and it was real easy for me to get those cuts. They made great passes so I would just read my defender and then hit me with the pass.”

The 23-year-old guard has said prior he felt like he sold himself short his first two seasons at UNLV. When asked what he changed his senior year to help get him in position to secure a spot with the Milwaukee Bucks 2019 NBA Summer League team, Clyburn said, “just my mentality you know, I was laid back my sophomore and junior year, and just being able to take on that leadership role my senior year and be able to help my team any way I could.”

Clyburn went un-drafted in the 2019 NBA Draft but is the only Runnin’ Rebel to come out of UNLV this past year to play in the 2019 NBA Vegas Summer League.

“Right now I’m just thankful for the opportunity. I’m blessed to be in this situation. A lot of people can’t really do the things we're doing out here. A lot of people are watching us so I just want to show them I can play at this level and anything else they need me to do.”
