UNLV Baseball shut out the University of the Pacific 10-0 Saturday, at Earl Wilson Stadium.
Freshman Austin Kryszczuk opened up the scoring for the Rebels in the bottom of the first inning, but the Tigers held them to only one run.
The Rebels had another burst of offense in the second inning. James Gamble hit a bases-loaded single to left field, scoring Edarian Williams and Myles Denson to make it 3-0. Kryszczuk doubled to the left side, bringing Rylan Charles in for another run. Diego Alarcon then picked up an RBI, while grounding out to the shortstop. Kryszczuk then scored off of a wild pitch, ending the second inning with a 6-0 lead.
The Rebel offense would then stay quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning when Williams scored off of a Denson double to the center-field wall.
The Rebels’ scoring would continue in the following frame, seeing two runs scored by Alarcon and Jack-Thomas Wold, putting UNLV up 9-0.
Jason Sharman rounded out the scoring for the Rebels in the bottom of the seventh after Alex Sardina grounded out.
The Rebels scored 10 runs with 14 hits while holding Pacific to zero runs on only six hits.
"[It was] all around a great team win today,” UNLV Baseball Head Coach Stan Stolte said. “The pitching, the defense, the offense, everything was great.”
The Rebels now look toward a tough opponent next time out, facing No. 18 Arizona State at the Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin on Tuesday, April 13.
"We’re confident,” Stolte continued, “but at the same time we respect Arizona State and we know we have to play well to win.”
Tuesday’s matchup will see a limited capacity sell-out crowd of 3,000 fans in attendance.
"With the addition of the crowd, it can add to [the atmosphere],” Stolte said. “It could also cause kids to be nervous, so it will be interesting to see how they respond.”
