The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Thursday afternoon that Golden Knights forward Chandler Stephenson has been suspended three games, following his ejection from Wednesday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Kings.
Stephenson was assessed a five minute major penalty and a game misconduct for elbowing King’s defenseman Tobias Björnfot. Björnfot left the ice with an undisclosed injury and did not return to the game.
“It looked like the right call,” Golden Knights Head Coach Pete DeBoer said in a postgame press conference Wednesday night. “I wasn’t going to argue with their decision at ice level.”
Stephenson has had no prior disciplinary history in his 241 NHL games played.
Stephenson will begin his suspension Thursday night, where the Golden Knights will take on the Minnesota Wild in the final game of their four game homestand. Stephenson will miss the second game of the two game series against Minnesota, as well as missing the first of a two game road trip in St. Louis on April 5.
