UNLV Women’s Soccer Home Opener Against Boise State Ends In Tie

After playing hard for a full 90 minutes, and two overtimes, both the UNLV Rebels and Boise State Broncos left the field with no goals, tying 0-0.

The Rebels’ season home opener was full of hard work and determination, but no one was able to put the ball in the net. Both teams showed off their impressive goalies and defenses, as the game ended in a draw, after twenty minutes of overtime.

“[The girls] played hard and with heart,” Head Coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams said. “There was so much grip and I’m proud of the way they played for the first game.”

Even without scoring, UNLV dominated over the Broncos throughout the game. They had more shots against the goal and managed to keep the ball on their side of the field for the majority of the game.

The Rebels fell short of their season average of one goal per game last year, but are dedicated to improving that average as this season continues.

“We need to tighten up some more details. The good thing about this group of girls is that they are so willing to learn and they’re hungry,” Coach Ruiz-Williams said. “We’re looking forward to a good recovery and to get back out on the field again on Sunday.”

The UNLV Women’s soccer team will return to their home field Sunday morning at 9 am, to take on the UNR Wolfpack in their second game of the season.
