The Lady Rebels were back on their home court on Monday, December 21st to host the Loyola Marymount Lions. It was the last game in the Duel in the Desert tournament. They scored a school-record fifteen 3-pointers, en route to a 94-59 win over the Lions.

“The best moment of basketball as a player is getting someone else’s shot and being excited for them and knowing that you helped to deliver the pass to get them open and we did a great job of sharing the ball,” Head Coach Linda La Rocque stated in the postgame press conference. “It was the kind of night where the go-to person was the open person.”

UNLV entered halftime with a strong 26 point lead, which only grew after the fifteen-minute break with great defensive effort and multiple rebounds that led to assists and more scoring.

Sophomore Delaynie Bryne and freshman Jade Thomas led the Lady Rebels in scoring, with 24 points each. Bryne also had 11 rebounds and two assists, while Thomas added seven rebounds and two assists.

This weekend’s games closed out the non-conference part of the schedule for the Lady Rebels. UNLV has already played a pair of league games as well, having split two games against Wyoming to stand at 1-1 in Mountain West play.

The 11-player Lady Rebels roster is the sixth-youngest team in the nation with an average age of 19.5, while they are the only team in the nation with at least 90% of its roster that started the season with just one career total Division I start.

“We have our work cut out for us with the upcoming conference plays through the rest of the season,” Coach La Rocque stated, “Now is when we really see what we are made of. I’m proud of the girls for this pre-season.”

Next up, the Lady Rebels will travel to San Diego to face the San Diego State Aztecs. The game tips off at 2pm on December 31st.
