After the Rebel's game against Eastern Washington was cancelled last week due to COVID-19, another positive test within the team forced the cancellation of their Monday night game against the Pepperdine Waves.
The decision came Monday from the UNLV Athletic Department after it was revealed that another member of the men's basketball team tested positive for COVID-19 during routine testing. The university did not comment on whether that positive test belongs to a player or a member of the staff. This is the second game that has been cancelled on the season for the Rebels. As with the game against Eastern Washington, no plans currently exist to reschedule this game.
With this cancellation, Rebel fans will need to wait a little longer to see their team in action once again. This game would serve as the final "tune up" game for the team before they began conference play. Currently with a 1-4 record, the Rebels were looking to add a few more wins with these last two games to get them out of the bottom of the conference. However, it was not meant to be. The Rebels begin Mountain West play Dec. 20 against the Wyoming Cowboys. As of right now, that game is still scheduled to be played. Any more positive COVID-19 tests could put those plans in jeopardy.
