After falling 101-54 to the number one team in the nation last week, Stanford, the Lady Rebels opened up conference play against the Wyoming Cowgirls Saturday at home, for the first game in a two-game series. The Lady Rebels were able to make some adjustments before conference play, and secured their first win at home.

Keyana Wilfred led the team to victory, after coming off the bench. She scored 20 points and had five rebounds. “I was super proud of Keyana Wilfred coming off the bench and really giving us some great production. Scoring down low, she was a monster down there.” Coach Lindy La Rocque said.

Wilfred was one of three standout players in this game, for the Lady Rebels. Freshman Desi-Rae Young scored nine points and recovered eight rebounds, and sophomore Delaynie Byrne added nine points and 11 rebounds. Young set the tempo at the start of the game, putting the first four points on the board for the Lady Rebels. Young was extremely vocal, moved off the ball, played with a lot of intensity and heart.

“Obviously we love being undefeated here in conference. 1-0, that was our goal,” La Rocque said. “I am really proud of our effort, specifically our defensive effort today. It was really awesome. They locked in, they focused and executed. Offensively, it wasn’t our best shooting night, we turned the ball over too much. The good news is we play them again and have another opportunity to right some of those wrongs. Our challenge is to bring some of that same defense for the next game that we had today.”

The two teams will face off again on Monday afternoon. Tip off is at 1:30 p.m. in the Cox Pavilion.
