What an unpredictable sport the national football league is, huh? The Las Vegas Raiders took a cross country trip to Atlanta to play the Falcons, who on this day looked the best they had looked all season long, in a 43-6 win over the Raiders.
Las Vegas now falls to a 6-5 record in a very tight AFC playoff picture. After the efforts today, the Raiders looked the furthest away from a playoff caliber team and now the challenges only remain to get tougher.
After the first few offensive drives stalling out, it had felt as if the Raiders had not gotten off of the bus yet. The Falcons did not look much better, as the first quarter ended a measly 6-0 with the Falcons in the lead.
It was in the second quarter that the Raiders struggling defense had gotten some minor pressures and pass break ups, all to be called back on roughing the pass calls and defensive pass interference. A huge penalty in this game, has to be a roughing the kicker call on Falcons specialist Younghoe Koo. Koo, was roughed by Raiders edge man Dallin Leavitt, although clearly he was shoved into him from Luke Stocker. Nevertheless, the flag resulted in a Calvin Ridley touchdown and the Raiders began to crumble.
Derek Carr’s four fumbles came off of rushes that were too much for replacement right tackle Brandon Parker, as he allowed two sacks, still though Carr has had a problem holding onto the ball. Carr, leads all quarterbacks in fumbles lost and added another interception to his stat sheet on the year, this time one that had resulted in a Deion Jones touchdown.
A total of five turnovers on the day for the Raiders, gifted pleasant field position for the Falcons. Josh Jacobs had his worst performance as a Raider on this day, rushing the ball seven times for 27 yards, while fumbling twice. He also injured his ankle, with plenty of speculation around that injury the Raider nation will just have to wait for the answers of how bad it is.
A familiar sight for the Raiders, as last year the silver and black walked into Metlife stadium to play the Jets with a 6-4 record, they walked out with a 6-5 record losing 34-3.
Las Vegas, much like this week, will look to right the ship and defeat the winless Jets next Sunday, in East Rutherford.
