Marvin Coleman : Leader By Example

UNLV Men's Basketball approaches, a roster of new faces has themselves a captain with a familiar one for the Runnin' Rebels basketball program.

UNLV Men’s Basketball is right around the corner and this UNLV roster has faced a lot of turnover over the offseason. Continuity has been a key factor to this year’s team, as the Rebels will look to bring togetherness and trustworthiness onto the floor night in and night out.

When it comes to who these new Rebel players should look to for guidance, look no further than Marvin Coleman, who head coach T.J. Otzelberger had labeled as the “coach on the floor” for the Rebels. Coleman, will look to lead by his actions on and off the court.

“I know I can say anything, telling the young guys to do this or for the young guys to do that, but if I am not leading by that example they can’t look at me and follow what I am saying”.

Coleman plays the role of a veteran now on this young Rebel roster, with certainty in his voice, it is apparent that he will do everything in his leadership role to do nothing but guide freshmen down the right path of being successful, whether it be on or off the floor.

“Each and every day, on and off the court, I have to make sure I am holding up the standards of our program and I am living everything I am telling my freshmen to do, I can not tell them to block out and rebound if I do not the same… one thing for sure is I have to lead by example”.

Coleman, truly can lead by example on the floor as he was the only Mountain West player with a triple double last season, his high basketball IQ and will to win has already gained the respect of coaches and players. He now finds himself, in a very unique opportunity to not only fill the stat sheet and get wins. But to also be a mentor and a leader to this new Rebel roster for this upcoming season.
