Raiders Headquarters
The Raiders practice facility and headquarters is being built in west Henderson off of Saint Rose Parkway, and is scheduled to be open in June of this year. According to CAA Icon, the Owner’s Representative for the new practice facility, states that the facility will be 330,000 square feet, on 30 acres and 25 acres for future development. This leaves not only hundreds of permanent new jobs, but the future job opportunities it holds after further development.
Golden Knights Lifeguard Arena
Henderson is also in the process of constructing a new Golden Knights facility in the Water Street District, which according to Las Vegas Weekly, has struggled with disinvestment for years. This historical area of Henderson has been held together by local restaurants, boutiques, and of course the Fiesta hotel and casino.
While City National Arena is the primary practice facility, the new Lifeguard Arena will be a place for the people of the city. Vegas Golden Knights Chairman and CEO Bill Foley explained that the arena “will provide locals and hockey fans of all ages and skill levels with a world class location to learn, play and experience the sport”. This is scheduled to be open in July this year. Lifeguard Arena will inevitably bring more jobs and tourism to this neglected street, boosting the economy in the original Henderson.
Growth in Henderson
Henderson overall will be greatly benefitted by these facilities, as more than 250 jobs are expected to come with the Raiders headquarters, and even more for the Golden Knights. Henderson has been constantly growing, especially on the newer west side with many Californians and people who work in professional sports moving to the suburb of Las Vegas. The unappreciated Water Street District will also have the traffic it has not had in years.
In addition to employment growth, these facilities will help this city feel like a part of the sports world. Finally, locals have teams they can support and call their own. Not only are locals able to attend Knights or Raiders events, but they can sign up to learn how to play the sport, work for these teams, and come together to just watch the magic of sports happen.
