UNLV continued their hot start in conference play by defeating San Jose St on Wednesday night, 98-87.

This win gave UNLV 10 wins overall, putting them above the .500 mark for the first time since their opening season win against Purdue Fort Wayne. The win bumped the Rebels into sole possession of second place in the Mountain West Conference.

The first half was dominated by fouls and three-point shot attempts. Both teams combined for 22 fouls, leading to 36 free throw attempts. The teams also combined for 23 three-point attempts, only 5 of which were made.

UNLV was able to get out to an early lead and never looked back. The Rebels were only able to make 47% of their shots in the first half, however, their low shooting percentage was offset by converting 17 of 20 free throw attempts.

San Jose’s leading scorer, Seneca Knight, put on a show in the first half. He scored 18 of his game high 30 points before halftime.

The Rebels came out on fire in the second half on their way to building up a 20-point lead. Jonah Antonio was able to hit five of his eight three-point attempts for 15 points, while Marvin Coleman led UNLV with 17 points of his own. Cheikh Mbacke Diong also added a double double (12 points, 13 rebounds).

Six Rebels finished the game with double digit scoring to lead UNLV to their 11-point win.

UNLV’s next game will be at home against New Mexico at 3pm.
