Christmas did not come early for the Golden Knights tonight. They lost their last game before the winter break to the Colorado Avalanche, 7-3.

The Golden Knights, who came into the game just one point behind the Avalanche, were looking to avenge an ugly defeat from their first matchup this season when they were defeated 6-1.

Colorado was able to pick up right where they left off, by jumping out to an early lead when the former Vegas Golden Knight, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, scored less than five minutes into the first period. Bellemare, who is in his first season with the Avalanche, has scored three of his six goals this season against his former team. The Golden Knights were able to tie up the game when Ryan Reaves was able to find the back of the net midway through the first period.

The Avalanche took back control and finished the first period off strong with two goals in the final six minutes. They took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

Max Pacioretty started off the scoring in the second period for the Golden Knights, but the defense wasn’t strong enough to hold off the Avalanche to allow for a comeback attempt. Colorado was able to score two more goals, one of which was by Bellemare for his second of the game, before the end of the second period and took a 5-2 lead heading into the third period.

William Carrier scored just two minutes into the third period as the Golden Knights were trying to fight their way back into the game. The comeback attempt was short lived as the Avalanche were able to get the goal back by scoring one of their own to extend the lead back to three goals.

The Golden Knights comeback attempt fell short as they lost to the Avalanche, 7-3. They’ll be taking a short break for the holiday and look to bounce back from the loss when they play the Ducks in Anaheim on Friday, 12/27.
