This past weekend was a mixed bag for Rebel baseball as they hosted the New Mexico Lobos in the two team’s first series of the season. Home field did not play in the Rebels favor, losing games on Friday and Sunday which brings them to 17-13 on the season.

Friday saw the Rebels jump out to a two run lead in the first inning. Bryson Scott and Jack-Thomas Wold both touched home as runs were batted in by both Wold and Jason Sherman.  However it wasn't enough as the Rebels went scoreless through the final 8 innings and the Lobos scored in the fourth and twice in the fifth to secure the win.

Saturday night was complete domination by the Rebels from start to finish. UNLV cruised to an 8-0 win as pitcher Ryan Hare threw a no hitter through eight innings. New Mexico’s Hayden Schilling ruined Hares’ bid for a no hitter as he cracked a single down the left line in the ninth. Rebel pitcher Connor Woods relieved Hare shortly after to retire the game’s final batter.

And in a 4-7 loss Sunday afternoon, UNLV jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning.Wold’s single and EdarianWilliams’ double brought runners home however there wasn't much from the Rebels after that. The Lobos dominated the middle innings bringing in three runs in the third inning. UNLV saw themselves down by as much as five before bringing in two runs to close out the ninth, making the score more respectable.

The Rebels currently sit at 5-7 in the conference, tied with Nevada for last place. The Rebels travel to Arizona Tuesday to face Grand Canyon University for a 2 p.m. game. They’ll then face off against Air Force on the road this Friday which will kick off the first and only series between the two teams this season.
