The NBA and the nation of China have had much conflict as of late as a result of the Hong Kong protests, particularly the root stemming from Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey.

Daryl Morey, the GM of the Houston Rockets, shared a tweet siding with the protesters in Hong Kong. The protests initially were against legislation that would allow criminals in China to be extradited to the nation's mainland. It has since then shaped into a protest for pro-democracy. Morey's tweet angered China's officials, therefore negatively impacting the NBA's international market, China of the most financially beneficial.

Despite wanting to retract and better the situation, Commissioner Adam Silver has still advocated for players' freedom of expression. Contrastingly, LeBron James has stated that Morey was rather 'misinformed' when the tweet was initially shared. James poses an important thought, which is how the goodness of freedom of expression can still garner negative consequences.
